On my old blog I used to make these little freebies. Most of the time they were desktop backgrounds, but
sometimes they were little printables. I really enjoyed it so I thought I'd bring it back here! Another
thing I plan on bringing back is a photo series I used to call "The View from my Phone". I would take
6 pictures every week with my iPhone and post them on the blog. Looking back at them now, it's almost like
reading a journal. It's fun remember the little mundane stuff like what I was wearing and what my cats were
up to. Since it's a Monday today, it seems like a good place to start!
So here is this blog's first little freebie. I hope you enjoy it. There's a few desktop sizes and one for
your iPhone too. I called it "Addition" and I'm really digging the warm, neutral colour palette.

Here's a new pattern I've been working on lately. I don't think I'm quite 100%
happy with it, but it's pretty cute! I've been taking Rachel Taylor's course
The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design
and it's been really fun playing around with colour this week. Last week was all
about loosening up and finding your own style. That's when I drew this little
pineapple cutie. Since then it's been through about 15 major reworks and
countless colour scheme changes as I'm trying to define what my design style is.
Still haven't quite figured it out but now I've got a craving for pineapple!
I've been working on this new floral pattern on and off for about a week now, and
I'm really happy with how it's turned out! My colour inspiration was a really bright
floral pattern on a dark blue background with some bright pink pops. As you can
see, it turned out completely different from what I planned!
I just kept fiddling with the colours and nothing seemed right. I ended up with
this palette by using the 'Recolour Artwork' tool in Illustrator. Normally I go
in and tweak each individual colour myself until I like what I see, but after
what seemed like a hundred tweaks I started playing with the harmony rules at
the top. From what I can see it takes the colour you have selected and shows you
some of the of the harmony rules to got with it. I'm so glad I found this feature!
I probably never would have picked these individual colours myself, but I love
how they look together. Just shows that I need to brush up on my colour theory a bit.
My new pattern is now available in my
Society 6 shop.
Makes a really cute iPhone case! There's also a
too, but since spring is on the way I'm into this bright one more.
So I guess I should welcome to my new blog and thank you for checking it out. I'm
really excited to have a space to dedicate completely to my love of art, pattern
and colour. I wanted to start this blog off by telling you a bit about my blogging
history and how I ended up here.
I had been blogging for about 3 years over on Mr. Handsomeface. That
blog started out as a way to promote my Etsy shop and feature other Etsy sellers.
The posts were all pretty boring and amatuer looking, but I learned a ton about
blogging during that period. Then Pinterest came along and DIY posts were totally
blowing up the internet. I never really thought people would like to learn how I
glue stuff to other stuff, but a few of my DIY posts became pretty popular. I had
a lot of success of Pinterest and Craft Gawker and totally loved coming up with new
ideas and photographing them.
In December of 2012 I took a little break from
blogging when my step-dad died. I just wasn't in the mood for playing with glitter
and ribbons anymore. Unbelievably, around that same time my dad was diagnosed with
cancer and ended up passing away in November 2013 (not even a year after I lost my
step-dad). Let's just say 2013 was not a great year for me. A little while ago I
started thinking that I really wanted to get back into blogging full force again.
It used to get me so excited and I've met some really awesome people through
blogging who are now my IRL friends! But every time I tried to come up with a new
crafty DIY post, it just felt like... I had done it all before. Every idea that I
thought was totally original idea would go in the garbage after a quick google
search revealed that a thousand other bloggers had the same idea. I thought about
staying with Mr. Handsomeface and just changing focus but I felt like I wanted a
fresh space to work with. I had also been playing with the idea of going by my
real name instead of a blog name.
And here we are! I had a lot fun designing this new
blog and I'm sure I'll change it up again soon because I just can't sit still, but
for now I'm super excited to fill this blog up with colourful, beautiful posts!
